When I first heard the term “matchmaker,” my mind alternated between Fiddler on the Roof and some kind of expensive dating agency. It is far more like the former than the latter and will only be successful if you are genuinely looking for love and marriage.
Natali will ask you “lots and lots” of questions to assess your suitability as a client. This information is also used to identify your personality and compatibility with potential matches. She will make suggestions and offer advice for improving your own psyche and manner. This is her role in the process and she does it in a very professional yet friendly manner.
She will then make suggestions of possible matches that she thinks might have a chance to work and this is where the story properly begins.
Natali suggested I talked online with Tanya, who was now living in Germany. We did this with Natali acting as the introducer in the call, before leaving us to talk. It was not a long chat as neither Tanya, nor myself, are that into telephone conversations, however, we both felt an immediate connection. Tanya suggested that it would be better to talk in person and I agreed, and so immediately booked a flight.
We texted each other continuously, for the next few days, before I travelled to Germany.
We agreed to meet at the train station and go for a walk and talk by the river. This was a much better idea than the usual cliché of meeting in a nice restaurant, as we talked for hours in the sunshine. A tip for anyone reading this, don’t forget sun cream, as I did!
There was an obvious connection and we agreed to meet again the next day, and the next and the next. I had to return to the UK, but arranged to return a few days later. This was followed by Tanya having to return to Ukraine to visit family.
On my next return to Germany, all in the space of a few weeks, we decided to follow our hearts and see where things went from there. That final destination, only 9 months after first meeting, was a beautiful island in Denmark, called Aero, where we were married. I can honestly say that I have never been happier in my life and I love her with all of my heart.
So, the question… does matchmaking work? Well, obviously it can work. It might not be suitable for everyone and there can never be any guarantees, you are dealing with other people and emotions. Would I recommend Natali? She feels more like a friend or big sister but that is the point. She will tell you what you need to hear, not necessarily what you want to hear. She will highlight your strengths and help you overcome your weaknesses. I would recommend her to anyone with an open mind who is serious about finding “the one!”
